the only choice

There is only one real choice in life: to be a saint or to be a king. Everything else is just a matter of means and opportunity.

  1. No Sir, nobody becomes a saint or a king by himself, only through the grace of God. Thus, even though we can decide to walk the right way, we only can proceed on it through the grace of God, Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, and assisted by His One, Holy, Catholick and Apostolic Church and the power of the Holy Sacraments, spent by His validly ordained priests.

  2. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree that nobody becomes either a saint or a king by himself, and that from start to finish everything good is accomplished only by God's grace. My point was that the object toward which we order our wills (which itself is also influenced by grace) matters, and once we have opted for or against sanctity=following in the self-renouncing footsteps of Christ, much of the rest of our course (unless later altered) is determined by the conditions in which we live.

  3. My experience is that I have to choice again and again for the small way to sanctity every day, and again and again I fail, but - thanks to His grace, His Holy Church and the Holy Sacraments as well as good priests like you - I am guided back again to the right way. Thank you so much, Kevin!
